{odd-toed ungulates}
"a mammal with hooves that feature an odd number of toes on the rear feet"

Hello everyone,

Odd-toed ungulates with one toe per foot are the horse, zebra and donkey. Those with several (but odd numbered) toes per foot areTapirs and Rhinos..

22nd Sept is World RHINO DAY.

So I thought I might remind you about the plight of this endangered, much loved, three toed giant.

  • Rhinoceros = the Greek words for nose (rhino) and horn (ceros).
  • White rhinos are the second largest land mammal and can grow to up to 11ft long and six feet tall.
  • Rhino pregnancies last for up to 16 months
  • A group of rhinos is called a crash.
  • Rhinos can run up to 64kph.
  • Rhinos have secret meetings at night to socialise and mate.
  • They are over 50 million years old as a species.
  • Last year, a record number of rhinos were poached in South Africa, with 1,004 killed illegally three rhinos every day!
  • The horn is shaved or ground into a powder then dissolved in boiling water to be drunk. It has no medical benefits whatsoever.

Perhaps we should disguise them? Any ideas... :-)  >>>>>>>>>>>>>
